Lokal Community Guidelines

Lokal is a platform that strives to create meaningful connections and genuine engagement within its vibrant community. To achieve this, we have established Community Guidelines that form the foundation for a positive and inclusive user experience.

The Community Guidelines outline the expected actions and conduct on Lokal. Complying with these rules contributes to a thriving community that embraces diversity, fosters constructive discussions, and ensures a safe environment for all. Failure to abide by these guidelines may lead to appropriate actions, including but not limited to content removal, informing authorities if necessary, and potential account suspension or termination. These measures are taken to uphold the integrity and well-being of our community.

Please be aware that this is not an exhaustive list, and there may be other instances that may violate these guidelines. Please be aware that violating these guidelines may lead to serious legal consequences as per Indian law.

  1. INAPPROPRIATE CONTENT

    Lokal strictly upholds a set of Community Guidelines to maintain a safe and respectful environment for all users. Inappropriate content, explained below, in detail encompasses any material, information, or media that is offensive, harmful, or unsuitable for its intended audience or context. The definition of inappropriate content may vary based on cultural norms, social values, and the targeted audience. Here are some examples of content that are considered inappropriate on Lokal:

    • Adult Content : Lokal strictly prohibits the posting of graphic, obscene, and/or sexual content that could be deemed inappropriate or harmful to certain users. We have a zero-tolerance policy towards content that is harmful to children, sexually explicit, or pornographic in nature. This includes content depicting children in sexually explicit acts, revenge porn, and any form of explicit or violent sexual content and nudity. Users are not allowed to upload, circulate, or distribute content that falls under the following categories:
    • Violent Content : Lokal strictly prohibits the sharing of violent content or any form of content that promotes harm or illegal activities. Users are not allowed to make direct or indirect threats of physical harm, including violence, theft, vandalism, wrongful confinement, or any form of harm to individuals, animals, or groups. Any content that references mass murder, violent events, or specific means of violence is not permitted on the platform. Users must refrain from posting content that incites violence against any group, minors, or animals. Additionally, content that includes graphic imagery of corpses, severed limbs, aftermaths of disasters, medical procedures, or any content that may shock or disgust viewers is strictly prohibited.
    • Self Harm and Suicide : We do not allow the promotion of suicide, self-harm, or any content that may put other users at risk on the platform. If you come across a user you believe is in danger, we urge you to reach out to the local emergency services available in your area.
    • Hate Speech : We strictly prohibit any content that involves personal attacks, ad hominem speech, or any form of discourteous, impolite, or rude statements intended to harm or cause mental distress to other users. Using hateful images or symbols in your profile image or header is not allowed. Additionally, modifying your username, display name, or profile bio in a way that appears to engage in abusive behavior or expresses hate towards individuals or groups is strictly prohibited.Refrain from posting hateful or discriminatory content. Examples of unacceptable speech include content that encourages violence, contains racially or ethnically objectionable language, attempts to disparage individuals based on their nationality, gender, sexual orientation, religious or political affiliation, disabilities, or any health condition they might have.
    • Misinformation and fake news : Users must refrain from knowingly sharing false, misleading, or deceptive, unverified information that can spread misinformation. This includes not sharing morphed or manipulated images, videos, or any media that is false. Sharing such information has the potential to defame third parties and can be detrimental to the platform’s environment.
    • Religiously Offensive Content : Publishing any content that may hurt the sentiments of others, insult their religion or customs, or incite communal discord is strictly prohibited. Any actions involving the abuse of gods, religious deities, prophets, figureheads, reincarnations, or leaders, as well as morphing, destroying, or desecrating symbols or emblems of a religion with the intent to cause harm or disharmony, may be considered as religiously offensive content.
    • Identity Theft and Impersonation : Identity theft is a serious offense, and it is strictly prohibited on Lokal. Users must not impersonate any other person, brand, or organization in a confusing or deceptive manner. Impersonation includes using another person’s electronic signature, password, or any other unique identification feature dishonestly. Any Lokal account found engaging in identity theft or making false representations is liable to be permanently suspended.
    • Illegal Activities : Users must not post content that improperly uses emblems and names recognized by The Emblems and Names (Prevention of Improper Use) Act, 1950. This includes names and emblems such as the Indian National Flag, The Indian Prime Minister, The Government of India, United Nations Organisation, World Health Organisation, and others listed in the Act. Engaging in or encouraging illegal activities is strictly forbidden on Lokal. This includes buying or selling narcotics, illegal or prescription drugs, alcohol, tobacco products, psychotropic substances, or any other prohibited items. The platform must not be used to offer access to lotteries, gambling, or encourage money laundering, prostitution, escort services, human or child trafficking, organized violence, or any other criminal activity. Users must refrain from posting content that threatens public order, incites others to commit an offense, or obstructs the investigation of any offense.
    • Cyberbullying : Bullying and threatening behavior are not tolerated on our platform. This includes any content that contains threats directed at others or engages in bullying or harassment. Users are prohibited from sharing defamatory or libelous content or sending threatening messages or insults to fellow Lokal users. It is essential to maintain a positive and respectful atmosphere, which means refraining from using abusive language, slangs, or expletives in any language, especially when directed at other users. Personal attacks, name-calling, and malicious insults with racial undertones or comments on anyone’s attributes, including physical appearance, are strictly forbidden.
    • Child Safety : Lokal prioritizes the safety of minors and maintains a zero-tolerance policy towards any content that exploits or promotes child sexual exploitation. For the purpose of this policy, a child refers to someone who has not reached the age of majority.As a user of Lokal, you are strictly prohibited from transmitting, publishing, promoting, advertising, or uploading any content that depicts or encourages child exploitation. This includes, but is not limited to: We adhere to the Protection of Children From Sexual Offences Act, 2012, which defines various scenarios of child sexual harassment, including using electronic or digital means to constantly watch, follow, or contact a child with sexual intent.
    • Violation of Privacy : Respecting the privacy of others is of utmost importance on Lokal. We expect all users to refrain from publishing, sharing, or encouraging the publication of any personal information that invades the privacy of another person. It is strictly prohibited to capture, share, or publish images of a person’s private area without their explicit consent. This includes images that reveal a person’s naked or undergarment clad genitals, pubic area, buttocks, or female breasts.

  1. INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS

    Lokal is committed to promoting ethical and responsible use of the platform. To maintain a respectful and innovative environment, we expect all users to adhere to the following guidelines:

    • Respect Intellectual Property Rights: Lokal believes that Intellectual Property Rights foster creativity, innovation, and expression. You own all the content and information you post on Lokal, giving you control over how it is shared. Before posting, ensure that the content belongs to you or that you have the right to share it.
    • No unauthorized use of brand logos or trademarks: Posting content that uses a brand or logo owned by another person without their explicit permission is not allowed. Similarly, uploading content with a brand or logo similar to another trademark to confuse users is strictly prohibited.
    • Copyright compliance: Users must not upload any literary, musical, dramatic, or choreographic work without the explicit permission of the copyright holder. Distributing copyrighted sound recordings without explicit permission is a violation of copyright laws.

  1. SPAMMING, SCAMMING AND PHISHING

    Using Lokal for spamming, scamming, or phishing activities is strictly prohibited. Users must not engage in activities that manipulate or negatively affect others’ experiences on the platform. This includes refraining from sending bulk messages from multiple accounts to amplify content or disrupt conversations. The platform should not be used to control prices or publish information with the intent to manipulate other users for personal financial gain. Deception in any form, whether on Lokal or elsewhere, is not allowed. Users must not share patently false and untrue information to mislead or harass others for financial gain or any other harm. Additionally, posing as someone else to induce people to share personal information is forbidden. Fraudulent schemes aimed at depriving others of money, property, or inheritance are also strictly prohibited. Sending unsolicited communications to other users is not permitted on Lokal. At Lokal, we prioritize limiting spam and deceptive content to create a positive user experience and maintain the security and stability of our services. We strive to prevent any misuse of our platform for artificial viewership or commercial gain. Please refrain from engaging in the following activities:

    • Posting, sharing, or creating accounts, Events, or other assets at very high frequencies, manually or automatically.
    • Selling, buying, or exchanging site privileges, engagement, or product features, unless it’s clearly identified branded content as per our Branded Content Policies.
    • Requiring or claiming that users must engage with content (e.g., liking, sharing) before accessing promised content.
    • Encouraging likes, shares, follows, clicks, or app/website usage under false pretenses, such as offering non-existent services or functionality.
    • Using deceptive or misleading URLs, including cloaking, misleading content, deceptive redirect behavior, like/share-gating, and typosquatting.

    We also discourage any substantially similar behaviors that may deceive or mislead users. Let’s work together to maintain a genuine and safe community on Lokal.
